I saw this mind boggling comment on an article the other day, and I got distracted because in the middle of it the person told me to go read about how Tiger Woods sex-trafficks-women-and-children-especially, but I couldn’t not share the rest of it.  Sad thing is that this is in no way unusual, and I’ve read almost exactly this sort of reasoning all over the place, long before Tiger Woods crashed his car. Some of you might recognize this as a description of “rape-culture” but not the part about actual rape, just the part about how slutty women cause it. I checked out the comment poster’s blog and it was entirely rational, because entirely rational people are falling for this stuff. I think it’s because they don’t know a lot of sluts:

I love the word hooker, it cracks me up. I don’t really know why though. Ugh. “should the view have had to apologized for hooker joke”, says some tabloid – I don’t care, I guess, or maybe not, or no way, or absolutely, or are you kidding me? this is news? you dirty dirty media pigs, i’m onto you with your machine of distraction, used to keep us from looking at news that really matters.

I’ve been telling my buddy for ages how the “sex-trafficking” issue is used to obscure and distract us all from more serious human rights abuses that don’t involve naked ladies, and how it’s becoming a part of everyday assumptions and is given mythic qualites and so on, and he always doubts me, but a week or so ago I totally called this one, I knew it’d only be a matter of time, and my buddy was totally impressed.
