Well, That's What You Get

Well, that’s what you get, I guess. Really, this “Stupak” uproar – you uproarers – that’s what you get. Yeah, I woke up feeling a tad bitter – so apologies right off the bat for expressing myself thusly, but; fuckin’ a, that’s what you get when you don’t fight for the rights of all women.

How can any feminist expect to be ‘given’ rights over her uterus if she doesn’t also demand rights over her vagina? We’ve given these people, these anti-choicers, so much when it comes to women’s sexual rights that it will be impossible to get reproductive rights.

If feminism does not fully support Sexual Freedom we will never have true reproductive freedom. Even talking about sexual freedom sends many feminists into a tizzy as it means talking about things like BDSM, pornography, and prostitution, and those practices, thanks the proliferation of certain radical feminisms, are considered behaviors that Always Exploit and Victimize Women.

Argh. I always want to temper my words, but the truth is that it’s hypocritical, and dangerously so. Far radical ideology is dangerous because it teaches that women cannot consent under certain situations. This is the opposite of freedom. When someone tells you that you CANNOT consent – you are not free. If you cannot consent to come or go, sit or stand, love or hate, have sex or not have sex – you are not free. That they tell you it’s ok to consent to certain kinds of sex, or to consent to go to certain places does not mean that you are free. That they say restrictions are only to help the feeble-minded and the weak-willed means none of us are free, because they have defined feeble and weak and the definitions adjust to the situation. So they say that prostitution and pornography needs to be stopped because it victimizes women. If a woman in either line of work says it doesn’t victimize, the answer is that she is a victim, she just doesn’t realize it yet.

That is the argument at its most basic – women are victims, they just don’t realize it yet. Only when it comes to prostitution, or pornography though. Or abortion.
